- Temporary; has to be re-cut often
Perforated Corrugated Pipe with Surface Drain
Advantages
- Can move surface and subsurface water
Disadvantages
- Keeps soils around your home excessively wet by allowing water to transfer out rapidly through slits
- Not designed to handle flowing water
- If not properly designed and installed, it can cause foundation performance issues
Corrugated Pipe with Catch Basin
Advantages
- Inexpensive
- Readily available
Disadvantages
- Surface drain catch basin traps water and debris
- Vulnerable to mosquito breeding
- Easily clogs
Traditional French Drain
Advantages
- Inexpensive and readily available
- System uses a traditional methodology with a 4” perforated corrugated pipe 12”–18” below the surface
Disadvantages
- There is no surface drain
- Susceptible to silting and clogging
- Clogging results in short life expectancy
- If not properly designed and installed, it can cause foundation performance issues
